Computer skills are a prerequisite for the Department of Economics and Management.
This test operates in two different and alternative ways, both valid for the Department:
- Free, but without a certificate * (from 2015 "Aula01" has replaced "Klpace");
- As ECDL (on payment, with an ECDL Accredia certificate issued).
Both in the case of ECDL as well as Aula01, the exam comprises a range of tests to pass the 7 modules. The first four modules must be passed by the end of the first year. For the content, please refer to the New ECDL base syllabus. We would point out that so far as the new ECDL is concerned, the Skills Card no longer has an expiry date. However, all seven modules must be completed within 5 years, otherwise modules more than five years old will expire.
* the skills card is a certification issued by a testing body which certifies the level of skills attained. The value of this certification is that it can be listed on your c.v, irrespective of which degree you have obtained.
To find out how to proceed, first choose which of the following situations is currently yours:
I already have a computer skills certification (e.g. ECDL base, start, full standard..)
I have started doing a computer skills certification (e.g. ECDL) without finishing it and I intend to do so
In this case you will have to choose whether to carry on at the Test Center where you began you ECDL, or make use of the University Test Center.
The test dates, costs and registration method can be found at the "Registering for tests" page. The University Test Center offers its students special rates, which you can find on the page dealing with registration.
Please note that the Department require you to obtain the full standard ECDL certification, which consists of all 7 ECDL modules.
By the end of the first year you must pass all four parts which make up the computer skills Test:
- Computer Essentials
- Online Essentials
- Word Processing
- Spreadsheets
Subsequently you must take the other three remaining modules.
If you decide to proceed with your certification at another Test Centre, remember to apply, once you have passed all the required modules, to have the exam accredited, using the recognition of credits link.
To prepare for the test, the Test Centre has made available an on line training course; you can obtain the access credentials in your personal Myunitn area by downloading the “Aula01 Computer skills training (New ECDL)” Widget
I do not have a computer skills certification (e.g. ECDL) but I intend to get one
All you need to do is to choose whether to get the ECDL at the University Test Center or at another Test Center. The University Test Center offers special rates to its students, which you will find set out at the relevant page.
The test dates, costs and registration method can be found at the relevant page
The ECDL modules which the Department require you to complete in order to have the exam accredited by the end of the first year, are as follows:
1 - Computer essentials
2 - Online essentials
3 - Word processing
4 - Spreadsheets
When you have completed the four modules required, the University Test Center will deal with the process of accrediting your result in your Esse3 electronic career record ("Libretto Elettronico"). If alternatively you decide to proceed with your certification at another Test Centre, remember to apply, once you have passed all the required modules, to have the exam accredited, using the recognition of credits link.
Remember that you must take the other remaining modules:
5 - IT security
6 - Presentation
7 - Online collaboration
To train for the test, the Department has made the Aula01 training course available; you can obtain the access credentials in your personal Myunitn area by installing the “Aula01 Computer skills training” Widget
I do not have a computer skills certification (e.g. ECDL) and I do NOT intend to get one. How can I satisfy the Department’s requirements?
To satisfy the Department’s requirements, anyone not already in possession of a complete, or partly complete, computer skills certification must take the following steps:
Step 1: pass modules 1,2,3 & 4 which are required for the computer skills exam within 12 months from the date of enrolment (the dates when the required modules can be taken are published on the test dates page by accessing Computer Skills test sessions – Unitn model)
Step 2: pass the remaining modules within 24 months of enrolment .
It is important to note that:
- Under the Unitn model Test sessions, you cannot take more than four modules at one time;
- Only two attempts per module are allowed, after which you must reactivate the payment code;
- Unjustified absence from a test which you have been told to attend, following an request for registration, will mean that you will not be able to take part in the next test session.
- Unitn model tests are aviable in italian only
For students enrolled before the 2010/2011 academic year, the indications given at the time of registration apply.
From 1998, Unitn decided to administer the curricular tests for Basic Computer Science using the ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) programs and methodology
How to register for the exams
Registration for the regular sessions is done by an application online on the days indicated in the calendar.
Those in possession of a Skills Card which was not issued by the university MUST make this known at the time of registration for the exams..
The candidate lists can be found online three days after registration closes.
Why ECDL
By taking the ECDL tests rather than the Computer Skills exam, students can give their assessment added value. The ECDL, in fact, has a value which is independent of the degree course, and can be included in your c.v., whether or not you have graduated.
Those who pass the tests which make up the Computer Skills exam (the first 4 modules) attain the ECDL Base” level and, by continuing their progress by taking the remaining 3 missing modules, attain the ECDL
